Montaigne – “READY”

Australian songbird Montaigne is serving up some serious inspiration with a healthy dose of political activism in her most recent single, “READY” (June 10).

An artist who has taken the Australian music scene by storm, winning an ARIA for Best Breakthrough Artist in 2016 and landing #23 in triple j’s Hottest 100 for “Because I Love You” in 2017, Aussies of the world rejoice in Montaigne’s insane vocals and writing abilities.

As she prepares for her forthcoming sophomore album, Complex, she has teased fans with two singles to date. Both “For Your Love” and “READY” are dripping with Montaigne’s unique mystique and explore concepts that stray away from the bubblegum pop norm.

“READY” is best described as an anthemic demand for change. Montaigne’s mood is unafraid and assertive with on the nose lyrics such as “I, I guess I’m frustrated / Thinking about all the places I should’ve been by now” and “Take me to the final stage / Give me, give me equal wage.” The production and vocals reflect this sentiment, bellowing unapologetically with immense presence and power. Similar to the political climate of much of the world today, Montaigne is through with glass ceilings and you can bet she’s shattering them.
