NIGHTLY: Honest (EP) Review | SXSW 2017 ARTIST

About 4 months ago, I wrote about a banger titled “XO” from the Nashville-duo NIGHTLY, and now they are signed to Interscope Records (!!) and have a 4-track EP that kinda breaks your heart, but then again makes you feel okay about it.

A little while back, I caught them at their Interscope showcase, and just recently saw them support K.Flay at The Troubadour. Lead singer, Jonathan Capeci, gave an aura of confidence and fearlessness, and the band, as a whole, commanded the attention of, what could have been seen as, a stadium. The way these guys performed their EP and unreleased tunes had me thinking there’s such a long road ahead of them.

With their debut EP “Honest”, each track continually proves their ability to penetrate the pop world with infectious melodies. It’s hard for me to understand, that with songs like “XO” and “Honest”, why many people haven’t gotten on the train yet, but I am a firm believer that in time, these guys will turn the heads of the Pop world.

“No Vacancy” is my favorite. Their songs were written right here in LA (Capeci told the LA crowd the night of The Troubadour), and I can only assume that this was inspired by one of my favorite bars in LA, although I might be completely wrong. Other than that, the chill pop tune is decorated with countless hooks: from the bouncing synth to the guitar riff, and the melody that reminds me why I ever loved pop music to begin with.
