Maggie Rogers: Alaska + [Módl and Josy REMIX]

If you don’t know who Maggie Rogers is, it is probably time you do know her. Rogers’ new dance-folk single “Alaska” is on almost every emerging artist and viral songs playlist. You might have seen her from the viral video of her sitting in on a Master Class with Pharrell, being more than impressed with her track “Alaska”.

She comes from a background of writing folk music, but traveled and found something spiritual in dance music… and the result of that? This baby. Her playful riff floating under her strong and nurtured folk voice seem to dance together harmoniously. In the chorus, Rogers’ brings us into a dream with her soft and airy upper register just after my favorite part of the song:

“And I walked off you
And I walked off an old me
Oh me oh my I thought it was a dream
So it seemed”

This song is both a refreshing and breathtaking balance of folk melodies and dance beats and I can’t get enough of it.

Now, if you’re like me, I always enjoy a good remix and I came across this electronic producer, Módl, when he released his official remix of The Chainsmokers’ “Inside Out”. This time he teamed up with electronic producer Josy for “Alaska”. With a tempo change, and some added orchestration, this remix still keeps you in a dream, but only to be ascended up into an electronic one. In my opinion, this is one of those remixes that did an excellent job at re-imagining the original track without straying away from the original direction.
