Jameson Tabor – “Touch” music video exclusive premiere
The zeitgeist of the popstar is a fascinating one, especially as culture moves through new mediums [seemingly] overnight with the aid of the almighty algorithm at the helm of social media. However, the qualities that define and highlight that pop ‘thing’ or ‘it-factor’ always seem to check boxes that stand the test of time, regardless of the platform. Catchy ear-worm melodies? Check. Effortless vocals? Check. A charismatic performer with visuals to match? Check and check.
This is also precisely where it lands for LA-based polymath and artist, Jameson Tabor. The singer/songwriter/producer/engineer/dancer (he’s just showing off now) has been climbing his way up the rungs of the industry, enlisting his talents to create music that at times is contemplative and pensive, and other times (like his current single and accompanying video), filled to the brim with what could only be described as undeniable joy and lighthearted storytelling. His latest video “Touch” follows this storytelling model with a sequence of events that meld together through seamless transitions and scenarios (at one instant we have jewel-tone garbage bags and a flamingo microphone), all bursting with color and the occasional wink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment of humor.
Written by Jameson Tabor, his wife Jenna Tabor and Molly Chapman, the song centers around the dearly relatable tale of “boy meets girl, girl is not interested in boy, boy laments his luck”. This story does have a happy ending, however, as it is set at the time when Jameson met his now-wife in college and the love at first sight that had accompanied it. Pairing his Shawn Mendes-meets-Justin Timberlake vocals and energy with the ‘awwwww’ factor of this beautiful gesture and you have pure, unabashed pop. The adeptly shot video weaves through a somewhat surreal and playful representation of those formative moments between the two, and does so with a sincere attention to set design, lighting and space that lends itself to a near-dreamlike narrative.
Jenna Tabor also makes a cameo in the video as the central paramour, which puts the shamelessly romantic vibe at the (forgive me) heart of the visual journey. The crew behind the creative station of the video also went to college with Jameson and his wife, and in a way each of them are telling the same story from a multitude of nuanced perspectives. If that doesn’t make you want to call your crush immediately, you might want to check your pulse. Jameson Tabor is definitely one to watch, whether or not you find yourself to be a traditional romantic, after listening to and watching his video, we all do.
