Casii Stephan, Crys Matthews and Jay Burgess share “Law & Order”

Casii Stephan is one of our favorite roots soul pop rock artists. Her music discusses important themes and her voice is powerful and intoxicating. The songwriter recently released her EP Relationship Status last month and she is back enlisting the help of her friends Nashville folk/country singer-songwriter Crys Matthews and Alabama native musician Jay Burgess for a new single “Law & Order”.

“Law & Order” is a powerful song discussing the perils of racism and the polarizing politics that are often found in the South. Casii shares, “In the South, politics takes on a different flavor. We say we’ve progressed and in many ways we have. At the same time, racial slurs shouted from cars and pickup trucks just because they can isn’t abnormal. And that’s not even getting into how our justice system is skewed, bent, and twisted. It seems we keep singing the same song in new ways over and over again. In the middle of 2021, I started writing this song. Then in 2023, I met Jay and Crys and asked them if they would write their perspective about their respective states. This is Law & Order. To those fighting to make our justice system more just and less racist, thank you.” The three musicians sing their own verse to the state they reside in, hoping for a better future where horrific policies and racist agendas are not tolerated. The song is a rallying cry for others to step up in protest of hatred and bigotry. Musically, the folk rock song features a catchy melody and a memorable chorus that invites sing-alongs, while its intricate lyrics weave a tapestry of nostalgia and cultural commentary.

The song is shared with a music video showing various Black Lives Matter protests and protests in the state of Alamaba. The trio have made an anthem that must be heard and shared.
