BLAZE FRANCISCO Reimagines “Ready to Go” With Desert Rock Spirit

The sound of a gentle guitar does little to foreshadow the rock-driven intensity with which BLAZE FRANCISCO reimagines “Ready to Go,” an anthem that can be interpreted as a celebration of liberation and empowerment, but also as a meditation on mortality, which is how the rising Los Angeles band has chosen to present it.

The song’s emotional weight stems from the near-death experiences of the group’s frontman, songwriter, and vocalist, Alex Weiss. After several close calls, including an accident in which a tree fell onto his car while he was inside, Weiss became acutely aware of how fragile life can be.

Although the band remains faithful to the original lyrics and makes only subtle adjustments to the music, Weiss’ perspective differs significantly from the version famously performed by Republica vocalist Saffron. Her interpretation carries a sense of euphoria, celebration, independence, and defiant optimism. At the same time, BLAZE FRANCISCO infuses the track with themes of accepting fate, embracing the obligation to live fully, and confronting life’s inevitable end.

BLAZE FRANCISCO has built its reputation on the stage, relying on the energy of its live performances and an artistic identity that recalls the golden age of ’90s alternative rock, when social media did not exist, and a direct human connection was essential.

Led by Alex Weiss and rounded out by Jessica Goodwin, Zachary Kibbee, Ariel Bellvalaire, and Philip Nielsen, the five-piece has cultivated a loyal following drawn to the aggression of alternative rock, the melodic sensibilities of classic hard rock, and an aesthetic deeply connected to the California desert.

What is clear is that BLAZE FRANCISCO knows exactly what it is doing, and that confidence is reflected in the inspired choice of “Ready to Go” as part of its growing catalog. The band continues to build upon the foundation laid by great ’90s acts while adding the emotional complexity needed to connect with a generation eager to look beyond the obvious and experience something deeper.
