The Nostalgic Dance-Pop Glow of “tragic!” by Polarroi and Nylo

Los Angeles electronic producer Polarroi has teamed up with soulful vocalist Nylo for “tragic!,” a dance-pop single that feels both nostalgic and deeply moving.

Built around catchy rhythms and synth work, “tragic!” pays homage to the dance music of the early-to-mid 2010s. During that period, club tracks could feel expansive without relying on overly complicated production techniques, and Polarroi taps into that balance here. The track began as a creative reflection on an iconic song by a major artist before evolving into a distinct creation of its own.

With billions of streams across major records he has produced, credits for a track on the “Atomic Heart” soundtrack, and music for an upcoming Hollywood film trailer, Igor Narbekov, the producer behind Polarroi, knows how to build expansive soundscapes. For this project, he reaches that scale through a more stripped-back approach, giving the melody room to move both the body and the mind.

“The more music I make, the more I realize how hard it is to keep things simple. This might be one of the simplest records I’ve ever made—no overthinking, no trying to prove anything. Just a song that feels good. Sometimes that’s enough,” he said.

Nylo adds another dimension to “tragic!” After taking a hiatus from the music industry and relocating to Texas, she returned to Los Angeles following an invitation from filmmaker and longtime friend Clement Oberto before entering the studio with Saint Homard Music.

Her delicate yet alluring vocals bring an uplifting quality to the song even as the lyrics describe romantic heartbreak. Images of sinking and an unreachable shoreline give that desperation a concrete shape, while her performance keeps the emotion connected to the track’s dance-pop pulse. Polarroi had tried the track with three different vocalists before Nylo helped define its final identity.

One of the single’s defining qualities is its versatility. The production has enough scale and punch to feel at home on a festival mainstage, while Nylo’s performance gives that energy a more intimate pull. It could just as easily soundtrack a hot, sweaty night with that special someone, with the heartbreak in its lyrics adding tension to the moment.

“tragic!” marks the beginning of a longer rollout for Polarroi, with new music planned every six to eight weeks over the coming year. The release is also accompanied by an official music video and digital campaigns, while an expanding schedule of live performances will support the project as the rollout continues.
