Shakes – Strange Tides (Video)
Listening back, there aren’t many good indie pop bands these days. Everyone seems to think dressing up as a cameo in The Breakfast Club and producing sickly 80s sounding jams with gated snares is meant to stick – but newsflash: no one even rated that in the fucking 80s dude… this kind of style of Indie Pop sickens me. It’s been around for a little while but now, it’s annoyingly trash; like two high school acne-fied drop outs smooching for the first time in history whilst whispering sweet nothings in each other ears.
… and that’s why it’s the year of the Shakes. A 4 piece Indie Pop band with a twist, hailing from the beautiful New Zealand. The Unsigned quartet have been features on several huge worldwide Spotify playlists, has support from The Independent and various other blogs, and are now breaking ground with their second fun-filled EP, Strange Tides.
The wonderful thing about this band is the fact that they have this psychedelic summer vibe, similar in ilk to Tame Impala, but way more radio-friendly and hi-fi.
