[Premiere] Geneva White – Surface EP + Not The Same (feat. Reggie Coby)
If you aren’t familiar with the music of singer/songwriter Geneva White, its about time you take a moment and listen. By releasing a string of infectious, yet soulful, electro-pop anthems, the Key Largo, FL native has proven herself to be one of this year’s artists to watch.
After getting a sneak peak of her debut EP Surface, we were eager to speak with Geneva to find out what the EP meant to her; and more specifically, how one of its stand out tracks “Not The Same” came together. She mentioned that the EP Surface in its most simple form “is about the experiences I’ve had moving from place to place and the happiest and saddest moments along the way.”
The songstress dove a bit deeper into the creative process for “Not The Same” stating that “the way the song came about was definitely the most collaborative effort on the EP. I held my own writing camp in Austin, TX with some friends of mine who I’d toured with in the past. It was flooding that week so we were all stuck in the studio, unable to drive anywhere. Collaborating with a full horn section (aka the “Wet Horns”), band members of Austin group “Sometimes a Legend”, producers Alex & Alex from LA, and the talents of Reggie Coby, the song was effortlessly born. There were 20 people in the studio at any given time, and there was a constant stream of pizza, beer, and tacos which probably added to the feel good vibe of the song.”
Geneva’s exceptional vocals glitter on each track showing off her impressive dynamic range and proving she is no “one trick pony.” Be sure to check out her debut EP Surface and catch her at her first headline show in Los Angeles on October 22nd, at The Moroccan Lounge. Ticket link below.
