Sob Sister – Recultivated (EP)
Sob Sister has just released “Recultivated”, a four song instrumental EP highlighting his ability as a flautist. Contrasting his first EP, “Beard”, which featured vocal stacks over mellow and minimalistic pianos and atmospheric strings, “Recultivated” focuses on the flute like a voice. Sailing through shimmering melodies that exist somewhere between beautiful and haunting, this EP exemplifies the multi-instrumental talent of this new artist. Perfect for the snowy season (or, for those of us in LA, the slightly-colder nights)!
In his words:
I’m always looking for ways to challenge myself as an instrumentalist, arranger, producer, and this EP was a chance for me to work on my flute playing and arranging skills. I also questioned what I could create by not including my voice on the tracks. I chose three of my older songs to rearrange into instrumentals (“I’m Not a River”, “The Blue Fairy Godmother”, “In My Mother’s Voice”) and included a new piece of music (“Night Light”) written by myself and Eunsea Min, who plays some electric guitar on the EP. My goal was to cast a spell of some sort, conjuring a breathy and melancholy atmosphere with the pieces, something you can get stoned and melt into. I loved finding new color and energy in the existing songs, and imagined I was scoring a quiet and melancholy film.” –Sob Sister
