BATTLEFLAGG shares sophomore EP Solastalgia
Philly based BATTLEFLAGG blends indie pop textures with lush, reverb-drenched production, and an introspective, emotional lyricism that feels both universal and deeply personal. His ability to blend retro sounds with futuristic production techniques makes his music unique and his new EP Solastalgia demonstrates just that.
Solastalgia is inspired by the missed connections that occur when one’s world is falling apart. He confides, “Solastalgia is defined by philosopher Glenn Albrecht in his 2005 article on the subject as “the homesickness you have when you are still at home,” where you may find your home environment changing in distressing ways. It is a lived evanescence of what you have always known, like standing in one place as the life, memories and places fade away. Unlike nostalgia, solastalgia is distressing and is often attributed to environmental or other changes completely out of one’s control.” The EP opens with the larger than life stadium ready single “Ghosts”. The song is rich and layered, allowing each listen to reveal new depths. “Solastalgia- 4 am version” is a haunting folk ballad, filled with stripped down acoustics and emotional melodies. “I Gotta Love” perfectly encapsulated the shifting, flowing sound of the record — a kaleidoscopic journey filled with infectious grooves, bright guitars and catchy choruses.
For Solastalgia, BATTLEFLAGG partnered with an all-star group of musicians and Daniel Knowles who produced the EP. The result is a captivating listen examining the complexities of life in the modern world.
