Ben Sefton Crush

Ben Sefton’s Thrilling “Crush”

My heart aches for someone that I just met and I know I’m a fool for that
For Gods sake can’t get you out of this head since I saw you moving past

Originally Written as a flex piece to try and impress a girl, Ben Sefton quickly realized that changing some words around for his song, “Crush”, could turn this cute track into a veritable serial-killer nightmare fuel about obsession and stalking.

I wanted this song to sound creepy, cool, vibey, and maybe a bit spooky – like fall. I think the warm rhodes, the eerie vocal harmonies, and the jumpy flute lines really give the sense that something baleful and chilling is afoot somewhere in the crisp autumn night!

Ben Sefton Began his songwriting Journey in his teens and it would lead him to join Selkirk College’s Contemporary Music & Technology Program, majoring in composition to further hone this ability and decipher the mysteries of what makes a song truly great. He has hundreds of unreleased songs in store and he looks ready to strike.

Ben will be the first to tell you he’s not a disturbed creep with an unhealthy fixation, and it’s very commendable for him to have had the guts to turn his song around into something so undeniably creepy for the sake of originality… and fun.

Drawing inspiration from a myriad of Slasher flicks from the 80s, Director Aaron Sinclair and Jeremy Ratzlaff manage to make one of the best-looking music videos I’ve seen in a very long time, a piece with its own storyline worthy of being developed into its own short (or even feature-length?) film!

The Story of the music video is as follows: “Clara is hired to shut down Glad Tidings Camp after it’s summer programming. The camp has a different energy when there are no campers and you are alone with the creepy caretaker. Clara keeps her mind off of the off-putting scenario by fantasizing about David, the athletic hunk next door.”
