Brandyn Burnette: State I’m In EP
I first saw Brandyn Burnette live at The Hotel Cafe when he and Molly Moore performed together as Cosmos and Creatures. Since then, I’ve been anticipating his new EP and although I’m a bit late, I finally got to drown myself in it.
He opens the EP with the very honest and tender “Underneath”, but brings us something darker and enticing with his second track “Worship”. Smooth R&B vocals and tantalizing lyrics such as: “Are you coming over? / Can I worship you tonight? / Don’t care if you sober / Swear I can get you high” will you pull you in like a magnetic field.
There are two standout tracks and “Closer”, a collaboration with John Lock, is one of them. “Come a little closer, babe. / Send your cosmic lovin’ my way…” fills your headspace with a deep reverberant beat topped with Burnette’s dreamy falsetto that lead “Closer” into an electronic ecstasy.
The title track, “State I’m In” is who he is: a progressive soul. It ties everything great about him into this one song. If you wanted to know who Brandyn Burnette was, this would be the song to tell you.
Brandyn Burnette seems to be the future. He not only changes the game, but he challenges it. When he starts touring, you won’t want to miss it because I’m sure these songs will be taken to the next level. You can grab his EP off of iTunes or stream it on Spotify or Apple Music.
