Cassette Tapes – Sugar Rush

“Sugar Rush” by Cassette Tapes took me by surprise in the best possible way and I feel like I’ve found a hidden gem. “Sugar Rush” is the fourth single from the duo Cassette Tapes, comprised of Jackson Stokes (vocals & songwriting) and Parker Livingston (production). The production in this is awesome- it constantly grooves, but explores space & dynamics in a really effective way. There’s unique sound design here, from the percussion layers and effects, to the synths and vocal chops.

Jackson Stokes is an incredible vocalist, sporting a suave lower register in the verses and a delicate falsetto in the chorus. There’s patience to the whole song and this duo isn’t afraid to drastically change dynamics (even stopping the beat) to focus on special moments in the song.

“Sugar Rush” has major playlist potential (add it to yours!) and Cassette Tapes is a duo of tremendous undiscovered talent.
