Undeniably the new rising voice in pop music, Charlotte Lawrence’s singular vocals come in vulnerable and mellow before rising to a haunting falsetto. The track is sparse, building slowly with a dark energy and atmosphere that sets the stage for smooth rhythmic songwriting. With all that in place, nothing prepares a first-time listener for the chorus: everything drops out and Charlotte, layered with a vocoder, croons an anti-apology that’s as catchy as it is candid. It’s an awesome contrast that still floors me with each listen.
