Constellations, Sirens, and a Love That May Exist Alone: Inside Leo Sawikin’s “Burning Love”

“Burning Love,” the new single from New York singer-songwriter Leo Sawikin, blends guitars and drums with poetic lyrics that explore a love that is difficult to decipher, the complex patterns that repeat in certain relationships, and the unsettling possibility of experiencing something that feels immense all on your own.

Featuring music by Sawikin and lyrics by Max R. Yassky, the track turns to the night and the natural world to express deep emotions. This sensitivity fits within the serene and introspective universe the musician has developed, where his connection to Manhattan and its frenetic pace contrasts with his almost meditative way of observing life and its nuances.

The song portrays an intense emotion through opposites such as night and dawn, the fragile and the wild, heaven and hell, romantic surrender, and the survival instinct. The protagonist knows what he feels but seems unsure whether the other person experiences that connection with the same intensity.

That uncertainty reaches its clearest point in the chorus question, “Am I the only one to know this burning love?” turning doubt into the emotional center of the composition. The image of constellations in the eyes of the person he loves expands the sentiment into a cosmic dimension.

With references to Greek mythology in images such as being “tied to the mast,” evoking Odysseus bound to the mast while listening to the sirens’ song, as well as passages with religious undertones such as “Fallen angels down the devil’s road,” the track feels almost like an abstract painting filled with precise details, leaving room for listeners to discover a new way of finding themselves with every replay.

After releasing the EP “The Edge of Everything” and touring across the United States as an opening act for Jon McLaughlin, Sawikin is already working on a full-length album slated for 2027. “Burning Love” becomes part of this new chapter, offering a clear glimpse of what the musician may achieve if he maintains the balance between pop sensibility, contemplation, and a lyrical ambition that refuses to embrace trends.
