Contact – Sunset

Boston-based duo, Contact, is back with their new single “Sunset”. Their first single of 2018, Contact comes in starts quietly with a piano building with atmospheric layers, before a Matt Rhoades’ wispy vocals float above it all. There’s a hopefulness to this song; an optimism amidst layers of uncertainty.

The song explodes as Austin Bryant’s recognizable electronic post-punk drums slam through (reminiscent of the bigger moments of M83 or The Naked And Famous).

This is a welcome return from Contact & I’m looking forward to hearing what comes next.

In their words:
Last year, after a breakup and life change, I felt I was faced with an existential crisis… Driven by mounting uncertain titles around music, life, money, and friends, panic attacks became an unwelcome thing again. Self medicating, I found myself walking alone one night at 2 am downtown. A piano melody I wrote on loop played in headphones, and I was singing a phrase over and over again. I see the dark horizon. I think the sun is setting now.” -Matt Rhoades
