Dante Mazzetti Trailblazer for Himself in “Here I Go”

You can hardly get any more promising than New York Native Dante Mazzetti, an indie folk singer-songwriter, who is currently generating all the buzz around him and his salt-of-the-earth sound. Dante’s music journey started with his self-titled debut album, delving into Americana and rock. However, his path took a remarkable turn after 9/11. Choosing to serve his city, he joined the FDNY and emerged as a true hero, earning one of their highest medals of honor for his extraordinary bravery during a devastating apartment fire. His music may have captivated audiences, but his selfless actions define his remarkable character.

Dante’s most recent hit is called “Here I Go”, a track about the importance of being true to oneself, even when societal expectations steer us in a different direction.

“Here I Go”  is introspective and expressive, evoking a sense of longing for something more. The repetition of “Here I go” in the chorus emphasizes the idea of moving forward despite uncertainty, as if every step of the way was a leap of faith. The song also makes use of vivid imagery and metaphors to convey a desire to break free from certain societal constraints and forge a new way. The lyrics also touch on themes of loneliness, heartbreak, and the struggle to find one’s place in the world.

The song does a cold open by jumping right away into it all, evoking unshakeable cultural memories of timeless Americana. A kind of railway mysticism moment happens when you feel like you’re simultaneously listening to a rugged frontiersman, an old-timey hobo, and a 1960s troubadour, all singing through Mazzetti’s voice. His singing feels dusty and aged in all the right ways, like the strong shot of Whiskey or the grainy nostalgic ambiance of vinyl pressed before you were born. Though the song is its own -after Mazzetti and his creative spirit-, it feels like it moves about you with the full weight of history behind it. It’s quite an experience, check it out.
