Dominique – Receipts
Dominique is back with her awesome new single “Receipts”. This song immediately starts with awesome minimal production, almost-plucking, as Dominique’s airy vocals cuts through with honesty.
From there it builds, subtly growing with a light beat & arpeggiated synths, before expanding into a spacious pre-chorus.
The chorus is direct and well-written, with a grooving bass that keeps the adds a cool energy to the track. It’s a clever concept (“I kept receipts”) that feels fresh and absolutely relatable for a generation of people with logs of every good & bad text they’ve ever been sent.
It’s experimental & gritty yet it also has an incredible pop sensibility at its core that would be perfect for clubs or (with some explicit-lyric-clean-up) the radio.
“Receipts” is a welcome return for this NYC-based singer-songwriter!
In her words:
“‘Receipts’ is about someone asking you for a second chance and trying to convince you that they’ll treat you right, but you’ve kept a record of everything they’ve done in the past and you won’t fall for their manipulation tactics again. Working on the record with my songwriter friends MDA and EJAE was such an uplifting experience and I’m so happy with what these two talented women contributed to the track. To top it off, my dad played bass on each chorus in the song, and I got to record him myself when I visited my hometown last month.” -Dominique
