Official EP Announcement: GROVES – NOT FOR NOTHING
Los Angeles band, GROVES are set to release their first body of work, an EP titled ‘Not For Nothing’. Releasing on February 17th on MDDN. The EP was recorded with producer/engineer Courtney Ballard at MDDN studios. Pre-order it here.
Highlighted by tight grooves and melodically rich guitar interplay, the trio balance their approach with dark synth underpinnings and vocals that are at once urgent and cinematic. These are big alt-rock tunes with an intuition for structure and a taste of history. Picture an American version of The Police meets Phoenix or Tame Impala, with small town charm.
Born in Eagle Rock, a neighborhood in Northeast Los Angeles, the trio GROVES rented a house and began creating a dynamic sound that’s experimental, unafraid, and limitless. The native Texans Stephen Salisbury (vocals/guitar), Reid Guidry (bass) and Will Smith (drums) met in high school and after years of sharing the same passion for music, left their hometown of Groves, TX for LA, in pursuit of starting a band.
“We put our blood, sweat, and tears into crafting these songs. Every track on the EP had to pass through all three of our checklists and we honestly feel this is the truest representation of the GROVES sound. We’re very excited to see where it takes us”, says Guidry.
The band was gifted artwork by fine artist, Brian Montuori who’s done work for the likes of Sleigh Bells and Good Charlotte.

“I wanted to tell a story of how a person wants something they don’t have, but when they get it, it turns out to be not what they expected. Urges captures a heavier and darker side of us that we all feel. Getting what you want won’t always make you happy. The cycle continues, as you move from one thing to the next, searching for happiness in all the wrong places.” said Stephen Salisbury, lead singer and guitarist.
