Singer-songwriter Matt Koelsch is gearing up for an exciting fall, joining Wet Wet Wet as the opening act on their 2025 UK tour. Heather Small of M People will also be part of the lineup, turning the tour into a true celebration of uplifting music and connection.
From Bath Forum to London’s Indigo at The O2, Koelsch is eager to share his passion with new audiences, describing his live shows as moments of genuine exchange. “I come from the heart, and I give it everything I’ve got,” he says. “When I open up, you open up, and something special happens.”
Known for his dynamic performances, often reaching up to 170 shows per year, Koelsch’s stage presence reflects the discipline and soul of a full-time artist who left the corporate world behind to follow music wholeheartedly.
In addition to his touring schedule, Koelsch has been diving into film composition, recently completing the original score for “The Anger,” a new drama-horror directed by Anthony Knasas. The collaboration began after a meeting at Canter’s on Fairfax in Los Angeles, where they discussed the film’s vision.
Over several years, and even through the pandemic, the two crafted the score through both in-person sessions and video calls, blending layered instruments, percussion, and digital textures into an evolving theme that shapes the film’s emotional rhythm.
Shot primarily on an iPhone 14, the film has already drawn attention for its creativity and striking visuals. The film is set for release within the next year.
A New England native, Koelsch left a finance career during the 2008 recession to dedicate himself fully to music. Since then, he has played over a thousand shows, sold more than 3,000 physical records, and surpassed over 1.5 million streams across platforms. He has shared stages with artists such as James Taylor, Ke$ha, Hootie & The Blowfish, and Collective Soul and has worked alongside musicians affiliated with Adele, Hans Zimmer, and John Mayer. A Berklee scholarship recipient with a degree from Providence College, Koelsch has continued to refine his craft through advanced studies in composition, harmony, and production. His sound merges pop, rock, and indie influences, inspired by artists such as Jack Johnson, John Mayer, and Paul Simon.
Now based on Boston’s South Shore, Koelsch balances his work as a performer, producer, and composer, infusing authenticity into everything he creates. With both a new tour and film on the way, 2025 is already shaping up to be one of his most defining years yet.
