Kids That Fly capture modern escapism on new single “Too Many People”

There are certain bands you might casually stumble upon only to instantly realize, after paying attention to their music, you actually need them in your daily rotation. Connecticut-born, Nashville-based outfit Kids That Fly fits perfectly into that category. Forged in the DIY house-show scene, these longtime friends check every box of an indie rock act, and today, they are delivering a highly anticipated new single.

Too Many People” is an indie rock offering that proves that Kids That Fly possess a knack for crafting memorable tunes. The track is a guitar-driven anthem boasting a melody so catchy that you will be hitting the replay button as soon as it ends. The vocal delivery is fast-paced, and you might blink and miss its clever details, while the hard-hitting guitars and grounding drums anchor the song in reality. Yet, it is the chorus that steals the show. Thematically, it taps into the exhausting tension between yearning to connect with the world but at the same time, desperately needing to escape its noise. It encapsulates our modern world, with its overstimulation and the relentless pressure to always be on, wrapped inside a track that begs to be blasted with the volume turned all the way up.

One of the things that makes the single so compelling is this nostalgic feeling wrapped around it. The sweeping production feels heavily inspired by the 90s and early 2000s alt-rock. Listening to it will probably evoke the memory of standing in a local record shop, headphones clamped on at a listening station, unearthing a hidden gem.

“Too Many People” lays a confident foundation for Kids That Fly’s forthcoming album. As they continue to roll out new music, it is abundantly clear they are building something that is designed to last.
