[PREMIERE] Kyle Nicolai – American Hymns

“American Hymns” is an powerful & intriguing new song from Kyle Nicolai. It immediately starts with Kyle Nicolai’s unique vocals over a minimal & building guitar line. Kyle’s vocals are edgy and intense while also hanging delicately in a higher register than one would expect for a track this dark. The production is gritty and synthy (with an almost “Stranger Things” level of foreboding) and carries the song to an anthemic place by the time the chorus hits.

Over the last year, Kyle Nicolai holed himself up in his home studio in Santa Barbara to create his next few single leading up to an EP, and this is the first single to come from that.

In his words:
American Hymns is my love letter to Santa Barbara, the city I grew up in, and an ode to the lifestyle & energy I feel here. It’s the feeling that the “best” time of your life is ominously and slowly slipping away from you, and you’re not sure how to take it, never mind accept it…

It’s about trying to find meaning, and fix yourself in all the ways that you know deep down inside will never work, but you still do anyway. It’s about wanting something real when you look at your entire life and everything surrounding it, and realize you’re not even sure if you’ve ever really known what ‘real’ is.” -Kyle Nicolai
