Montazona’s “New Waves” Is a Reflection on Authenticity in a Trend-Driven World

Montazona, the musical project of multi-instrumentalist Marius Britt, has just released his latest single, New Waves, a song dedicated to the overwhelming lifestyle of Los Angeles, a city where trends change faster than the tides.

With influences from various artists, such as Tame Impala, Jungle, Mac DeMarco, and The Black Keys, Montazona presents a very personal piece characterized by sounds of distorted psychedelic guitars, synthesizers, and emotive voices.

The lyrics of New Waves convey a sense of urgency and reflection. “Walk right out that door / On to the next thing / Leave it all in your wake,” writes Montazona in a sentence that works as a critique of the constant search for novelties in music, fashion, and everyday life.

The song’s composition has the ability to combine an upbeat and catchy rhythm with reflective lyrics, in which the chorus serves as a reminder of the fleeting nature of modern trends.

Marius’ multi-instrumental ability is evident, as he integrates various elements to create a polished, modern sound that still feels authentic and grounded. His emotional vocal delivery enhances the song’s theme, making the listener feel the weight of his reflections on change and identity.

Marius started his musical journey as a toddler, learning guitar and piano, and later taught himself drums while playing in local bands. In high school, he wrote his first song, “Going Nowhere,” which he recorded in his college dorm with minimal equipment, leading to the release of his debut album, “Room 135.” While studying music in Boston, he wrote and recorded the second Montazona album, “Butterfly,” in his apartment, featuring a mix of upbeat love songs and more reflective tracks. After moving to Los Angeles, he has continued to record new music for Montazona in his studio and collaborate with various artists.

In a music scene that often prioritizes the ephemeral, Montazona’s New Waves stands out as a thoughtful commentary on the importance of genuineness. It is a refreshing reminder to slow down and appreciate the things we love for their intrinsic value, not just their momentary freshness.
