Oliver Riot – Ivory Black (Music Video)
Oliver Riot has just released their music video for “Ivory Black” and it’s a macabre cinematic experience complimenting the darker undertones track. Jarring close-ups, mannequins, reverse shots, and match cuts create a tense and unfamiliar environment within the video. The scars on the woman’s back and the hanging polaroids are genuinely disquieting while the underwater shots feel like drowning.
In many ways the extreme imagery contrasts the relaxed vocals & gentle piano present in the song, but the contrast heightens the overall intensity of the piece, imploring the viewer to listen to every line and watch every detail. The overall effect is awesome and incredibly engaging.
For those who saw Oliver Riot at our SXSW showcase (or live, elsewhere) you know the immense talent of this duo (comprised of identical twins, Ben & Alexander Moore). The video for “Ivory Black” highlights their ability to build an atmosphere around their sound in a visual medium.
