But as I continued to figure out the lyrics, I realized I needed something different from this tune. Those first impressions don’t always work out, as I’ve experienced all too many times, and the only person left at the end of it all to pick up the pieces is you. Clichés are cliché for a reason: everyone needs a confidence boost when getting back up from a breakup. This song turned into something I would want to tell myself in those moments: A first thing in the morning, singing to yourself in the mirror, confidence booster-kind-of-song.
