[PREMIERE] Ariza – Distracted (feat. Emily C. Browning & Why The Face)
The inimitable Ariza is back with his new single “Distracted” featuring Emily C. Browning and Why The Face.
From the start it moves with a smooth groove, as guitar and bass layers glide around and bump.
The chorus is effortlessly cool, with cascading vocals, intriguing harmony, and enticing production elements peaking out of the periphery.
Ariza is at the top of his game and “Distracted” is a perfect showcase of the immense amount of talent that exists between Ariza, Emily C. Browning, and Why The Face!
In their words:
“‘Distracted’ is one of those tracks where Emily and I just kept the flow going. Nowadays there’s so much coming out, and we just wanted to stay true to what the moment dictated. At the time I was listening to a lot of Beach Boys, Franky Beverly and Maze, Tower of Power, The Gap Band, and Brides of Funkenstein. All those influences sort of seeped through the subconscious of the session and dictated this careless but playful vibe.” -Ariza
“Early in the writing session, [I] mentioned “I want to avoid writing another love song” to which Ariza replied “Why don’t we make it about avoiding love”. And so the tune was born from the nature of feeling chaotic, scatterbrained and too distracted to hold down a functioning relationship. The theme then bled into the instrumentation and chaotic nature of the vocal harmonies and dirty synths, resulting in a sonic battle between Kimbra & Jacob Collier.” -Emily C. Browning
