Rock + Lyrics + Voice: “Lipstick & Lithium” by Peyton Gilliland
Playing with people is not right. Although if it’s the cocky bad boy, you might think better. This is what Peyton Gilliland’s latest release is all about, “Lipstick & Lithium”, from the album of the same name. A compelling journey into the depths of the dark feelings that many of us carry inside and that we rarely let out.
The track engages from the first seconds, thanks to lilting riffs that effortlessly combine elements of pop and electro-pop, to create a dynamic soundscape that perfectly complements the depth of the lyrics.
Peyton’s voice, as always, is the compelling instrument that navigates the emotional landscape of the lyrics with authenticity and grace. The mix of vulnerability and strength in her performance adds a layer of complexity to the narrative that allows listeners to connect on a more personal level to the story.
“Lipstick and Lithium is my personal favorite track off of the EP. It is so fun and sassy, It’s about giving the bad guy a taste of his own medicine. It’s about finding the guy with his chest puffed out and playing with his ego, bringing him back down to earth in a way.”, she assures.
Another thing that makes this song such a special work is the participation of Craig Wilson, who has worked on around 80% of Peyton’s musical catalog and who unfortunately recently passed away.
“My friend Craig passed away earlier this year and this EP was one of the last projects he worked on. Lipstick and Lithium was the last song we ever wrote together. We were still waiting for the masters when he passed so he never got to hear the finished product but I know he would have loved it and he would have been so proud”. – Peyton Gilliland
“Lipstick and Lithium” is just one of seven incredible compositions that make up Peyton’s EP that she has been gradually unveiling to us. Among these are powerful tracks like “God Complex”, “Funeral”, and “Devil’s Daughter”.
Peyton Gilliland, a rising star in the music industry, began her journey into music at a young age. Raised in a home that valued creativity and self-expression, Gilliland began honing her musical talents early on, drawing inspiration from a wide range of genres.
