[SHOW REVIEW] Trapdoor Social at Echo Park Rising 2019

Trapdoor Social know how to put on a goddamn SHOW. Their set at the Buzzbands.lA stage, was theatrical and featured a full horn section, a la Beyoncé at Coachella, and a sax solo from lead vocalist and guitarist, Skylar Funk, which was like Kenny G but not super smarmy and awful.

After being together since 2012 and evolving through multiple iterations, right now feels very much like their moment. Trapdoor Social’s sound is like if Queen and Death Cab For Cutie had a baby but with a harder, alt-rock edge. Funk’s voice and showmanship were highlighted on a cover of Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now.” Be sure to stream their latest single “The Lie” now.
