Silver – Drinking Games

Silver is back with her new melancholic single, “Drinking Games”. 2017 saw Silver’s debut with “Darling Don’t” which immediately turned heads while accumulating over 300,000 streams on Spotify. “Drinking Game” is Silver’s first single of 2018 and it paints a dark story told with a delicate frankness.

At the start, the vocals come in filtered, as if it were a over a radio or phone, before the production builds to create a space for the story Silver’s telling. The songwriting is the centerpiece, each line developing a painfully unresolved story, with a chorus that’s hard to stop singing along to. Silver’s voice is unique in how she approaches each line with a dark innocence- every line betraying the calmness in her delivery. When the chorus finally comes in, the production opens up, with synth/guitar countermelodies as Silver sings with a concerned yearning. It’s nostalgic (like an 80’s film), yet feels fresh.

“Drinking Games” is a strong follow-up single to an already strong debut and shows the limitless potential in Silver’s distinctive songwriting and voice.
