Sleeping Lion – Different Plans (EP)
Sleeping Lion has just released their new EP “Different Plans”, an unexpected record of unreleased songs that haunted them, brought back to life amidst the quarantine. The record features their singles “Balance”, “Tendencies”, and “We’re Fine”, but also three new songs!
I decided to go through each one & give my initial thoughts-
IF WE’RE DONE: This song is different. Surprising in the best way. Twists. Turns. Feel like I’m at both a spa and a rave in the best way. Feels like a song I would use in a break up montage yet also in a kiss in the rain reunion scene as well. Not only that, the main chorus/beat feels like a great slow dance song! Lots of blue lights for sure and shot in slo mo. More focused on growth. Most unique song of the EP. No other song like it I’ve heard.
WHAT I GET: Anthemic yet nostalgic. You want to drive down PCH screaming this at the top of your lungs, windows rolled down at midnight on a weeknight just to feel something. Somehow that first little guitar type moment feels like I’m about to open a scrapbook/ memory box filled with old napkins and doodles from a first relationship. By the time I close the scrapbook/box I’ve come to terms with the idea that I’m better than the past and I’ve learned from it for the better. Then I get really drunk, invite all of my friends over, we jump up and down screaming it on an air mattress/couch.
BUTTERFLIES: Every time I hear it it’s like the first time. Very much following the themes of letting go/moving on but also not forgetting the past of where you came from. Ashlynn Malia’s voice is ethereal and the cellos mess me up in a different way. Gorgeous song but cannot listen too much or I might break.
What’s your favorite song on “Different Plans”?
