Sleeping Lion – We’re Fine

(Review by Rozie Loreaux)

To no one’s surprise, the boys of Sleeping Lion hit us one more time with their newest release, “We’re Fine”.

This intricate track paints us the picture of long distance love, the labors to keep it intact, and the mistakes we can’t help repeating. Combining their pop-adjacent sound with a Kodaline-esque level of emotion, this dynamic single goes from soft & intimate to enormous & hot-blooded and back again.

And with the addition of a choir of voices and the silvery atmosphere of muted horns, you hear the faint influence of a Bon Iver atmosphere. The choir itself even resonates with a personal touch – the final chorus combines the voices of Sleeping Lion’s childhood friends, high school crushes, exes, and collaborators (including Emilia Ali, Salem Ilise, sad alex, Yoste, and Kira Kosarin).

With each release, Sleeping Lion seems to grow from their last; “We’re Fine sounds” indistinguishable from the hollow feeling of anguish the lyrics describe. The production and melody work seamlessly with the song’s message, and truly makes you feel it.

“We’re Fine” is the last single on Sleeping Lion’s upcoming EP “Different Plans” which will be releasing on August 14th, 2020.
