Transviolet – Bad Intentions
Transviolet is back with “Bad Intentions” and it’s so damn good! Their first single of 2018, this song immediately creates an atmosphere full of darkness and control.
The verse is smooth whirlwind, each line breathed out with a mellow confidence. Sarah’s signature vocals are incredibly versatile, gliding from sultry verse, to direct pre-chorus, to a haunting falsetto in the choruses. Every section blends effortlessly with a constant motion supported by clever sound design.
Atmospheric elements blend with swelling synths as layers build and break (I’m also a particular fan of the melodic guitar line in the pre-chorus). The songwriting is tight here too; it’s informed by a pop sensibility, but never compromised by it, each line giving a fresh spin to a familiar, empowering (and tipsy) theme.
It’s clear that Transviolet is back with a force, blending everything that made their early work so special with unwavering understanding of what makes good pop.
This track is uninhibited; it does exactly what it wants to do in a way that Transviolet always manages to pull off with an edgy perfection. This song is a party with neon-colored drinks; it’s a disquieting confidence that stays with you through each catchy chorus.
Transviolet is back and while they may have “Bad Intentions”, their music is still as good as ever!
