“Turn Off the Tears” by Vân Scott Becomes an Anthem of Resilience
Some songs go beyond telling a story; they become a form of catharsis for those facing difficult times, offering comfort and understanding through their lyrics. “Turn Off the Tears,” the new single by Vân Scott, belongs to that group.
Made in collaboration with Bede Benjamin-Korporaal, the song carries a message of resilience, turning personal pain into an anthem of hope. Its inspiration came from a deeply personal request: Scott’s sister Kayt, who suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2017 and endured more than a dozen concussions in the years that followed, asked him to capture “what it’s like to go through pain that no one else understands,” confronting a silent struggle few could truly grasp.
From that process came a track that, in Scott’s own words, became “the song that [Kayt] needed more than the song that she wanted.”
The title is a childhood memory of an uncle saying, “Turn off the tears” to soothe tantrums in the backseat of the car. This contrast between the familiar and the dramatic gives the song a special tone.
Musically, “Turn Off the Tears” unfolds in a warm and expansive style, with Scott’s voice, often described as a blend of James Taylor and Freddie Mercury. His performance conveys both fragility and hope, underscoring the song’s call to stop hiding behind fear and embrace life. The chorus captures the spirit of this uplifting anthem of hope meant to encourage those who have been through harrowing experiences.

“I hope that the song and the story behind it will be an encouragement to others who are struggling in their day-to-day lives to keep fighting and to never give up hope,” Scott shared.
Scott’s background as a studio singer in Hollywood adds weight to his artistry. He has contributed his voice to projects such as La La Land, High School Musical 3, SING, The Simpsons, and The Voice.
With “Turn Off the Tears,” he reaffirms that his greatest strength lies in crafting personal songs, where vulnerability becomes art and empathy becomes a creative driving force.
This single also paves the way for his upcoming third album, in which Scott explores family dynamics and the ways we share burdens in difficult times. If this preview is any indication, his next work will be deeply human, resonating with anyone who has discovered that when life becomes difficult, there is always family, by blood or by choice, to stand with us in our battles.
