WFNM Roundup #14 – Shungudzo, Loom:ngs, Teen Ravine, Colyer

Shungudzo new single “Paper” vibes with a lively energy. Her voice is incredibly unique and slides smoothly through the minimalistic track. It grows while remaining in constant motion, never betraying it’s sparse production or tight songwriting. It’s a cool track that moves with an awesome energy.

Loom:ngs has just released their new EP “Chapter One. Intriguing sound design and airy vocals create an vibey atmosphere around the stand-out track “Sullenblue”. Percussion is sparse, but carries the song along with a subtly growing groove that creates a cool contrast between sections. Another song on the EP, “Of Mine” has an incredible vocoder arrangement that evokes an awesome James Blake-esque quality. This EP is definitely worth a thorough listen!

Teen Ravine has just released their self-titled LP and it’s definitely worth a listen. Each song has a distinct character, from slow jams to steady grooves, and the vocals & harmonies are stellar. It’s an impressive release and with every song drawing you in with an enticing deliberation. It’s an LP you should listen to in its entirety on a quiet night.

Colyer new single “Beachwood Dr” is a cool track with a classic vibe. The opening brings to mind a hotel in the desert as Colyer’s croon carries the verse along. Melodies soar as production elements glide in-and-out of frame; there’s something nostalgic about the images this song evokes when it all comes together. A great introduction for new fans of Colyer.
