Grimes is finally back with a pop hit, reminiscent of About You Now by the Sugababes from the off-set, with driving drums and guitars. I’ve been waiting for this comeback for a while now, and it still has the initial grit that Grimes always brought to her writing, yet I do feel it lacks the strength to fight with a Taylor Swift monster.
Interestingly, I am totally looking forward to the next release to this if this we just a re-introduction to Grimes, or if she’s gone totally off path.
On first listen to Jata, the production is such an enigmatic feature of this track; the piano alternating between three notes, before building into a 00’s-soiree of soulful and swaying vocals.
With all of this Adele love going around, I stumbled across this thanks to Brett McLaughlin, the wonder-songwriter of this tune, and thought “Wow, Adele has competition…”
